Aim 1: Characterize the implementation determinants, strategies, mechanisms, and outcomes of PAD in Philadelphia and Baltimore.

What is Implementation Science?

Implementation science is the study of strategies and methods to improve the success of new evidence-based programs, policies, or practices. Implementation science researchers consider all aspects of the desired change, including key players, organizational context, culture, resources, motivations, and more.  By considering the implementation process from every angle, they can identify strategies that can improve the odds of successful change.

Overview of Interviews

  • We will conduct about 100 interviews among four groups:

    • Police assisted diversion clients in Philadelphia

    • Police who have experience with police assisted diversion in Philadelphia

    • Police assisted diversion service providers in Philadelphia

    • Police who have experience with police assisted diversion in Baltimore

  • Interviews will focus on:

    • Individual experience with police assisted diversion

    • What implementation strategies made the program successful or unsuccessful

    • The key players who influenced the program

    • Changes that would make starting a similar program more likely to succeed
